The durian season kicks off in June with many varieties of the King of Fruits popping up all over Penang for two months. Look out for durian stalls along Jalan Burma, Jalan Macalister, Jalan Anson and the Balik Pulau vicinity, or try booking a tasting tour at one of the famous durian farms like Bao Sheng, Green Acres or Freedom Eco Farm (if they aren’t sold out!)
While the Musang King variant of durian is generally a firm favourite among Malaysians, opinions may vary over taste, smell and texture - bitter or sweet, creamy or firm. Don't be put off by the aroma - many believe it tastes better than it smells!
