Surviving a near-death experience can leave lingering mental trauma, which is why five shipwreck survivors decided to seek help from a rehabilitation retreat. Little did they know that they aren’t out of dangerous waters just yet; the power goes off, and when the lights come on again, someone’s dead.
the Retreat is a film-noir styled whodunit play by I’M Entertainment, a new theatre production house. Scheduled to open on 14 July for a three-day run, the play follows the plight of Gina Chong, Josh Cagan, Garrick Callahan, Charlie Genevieve and Grace Campbell versus the mysterious murderer over four acts.
Audience members will be given clues throughout the play to find out who the killer is. At intervals, therapy sessions with Dr Robert Paul will give further insight into the survivors’ minds – though whether that will help or confuse you even more is anyone’s guess. Maybe you can catch the murderer!
I’M Entertainment’s inaugural full-length play is written by co-founder Michelle Tan, who also directs it alongside Ian Nathaniel. Sound design is credited to Anusha Abishegam and local mixed martial arts hero Peter Davis choreographs the fight scenes.
Ticket prices are RM60 per, but the Retreat is currently crowdfunding with a target of RM15,000 and interested viewers are advised to pledge as pledging will reduce the price to RM50 per. Click here to make your pledge.
the Retreat runs on 8.30pm for 14-16 July, with additional afternoon shows at 3pm on 15 and 16 July. The show contains flashing lights, loud noises and strong language, so viewer discretion is advised.
