It’s auspicious to usher in the Chinese New Year or open a new store with a lion dance, which is when you’ll see gaily-coloured ‘lions’ prancing around to clashing cymbals and a rhythmic drum. Some of these dances can get downright acrobatic, especially on stilts, and the Malaysia National Lion Dance Championship gives the most skilled dancers a chance to show off their skills on the national stage.
Held once every two years, this year the competition will be held at the Arena of Stars at Resorts World Genting on 2 (10am, semi-finals) and 3 (2pm, final) December 2017. Visitors will be able to watch the lions dance their hearts out on stilts and on the floor, trying to outdo each other with increasingly acrobatic stunts.
A total of 61 teams will participate in the championship, with 19 from East Malaysia, 16 from the central region, 12 from the southern region and 14 from the northern region.
Come support your favourite lion dancers! Tickets to the semi-final are priced at RM20 (PS1 - Free Seating) while tickets to the final are priced at RM100 (PS1 – Numbered Seat) and RM60 (PS2 - Free Seating).
