La Bayadere

When love is tainted by competition, it becomes vengeful, poisonous - and for an unlucky few, deadly. Created by French choreographer Marius Petipa of Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker fame, La Bayadère puts an Asian spin on the classic romantic ballet.

The star of the show is temple dancer Nikiya, who falls in love with Solor, a tiger-killing warrior whose hand has been promised to Gamzatti, the daughter of the Rajah, for his bravery. Despite secretly swearing eternal love to each other, the ill-fated couple is betrayed by the High Brahmin, who secretly wants Nikiya for himself. The ballet builds to a high-strung climax as both Nikiya and Gamzatti vie for Solor's affections until one of them meets a tragic demise - but does that mean the end of a happily ever after?

The high-profile cast of principal dancers features the talented Adiarys Almeida, Joseph Gatti, Ashley Ellis, Colin Peasley, and Aleix Martinez as well as local National Arts Culture and Heritage Academy (ASWARA) Dean of Dance Joseph Gonzales as the main characters.
