For the first time ever, the Kuching Waterfront Jazz Festival makes its debut at the Kuching Waterfront from 29-30 September. While there's plenty for everyone to do including specialty bazaars, arts and crafts events, food courtyards, childrens' games and more, the highlight - of course - are the jazz performers who will take the stage in the evenings.

The 29th is touted as the 'Smooth Jazz Night', featuring local performers like Andy Peterson and Akoustik Connexion (Malaysia) alongside international talent such as Mellow Motif (Thailand) and Ernie Watts with The Jeremy Monteiro Organ Trio (USA/Singapore).

Meanwhile, the 30th is 'Groove Night'; don't miss the Borneo Big Band ft Jessel Yansalang and local jazz queen Sheila Majid from Malaysia, joined by regional performers Balawan Magic Fingers (Indonesia) and Baihana (Philippines). Click here for the full programme listing.

The festival gates open at 5pm on both days and the concerts start from 7pm to 12 midnight on Saturday, as well as 7pm to 1am on Sunday. It's a free standing event so bring mats, umbrellas and mosquito repellent in case of inclement weather.

Ride-sharing (aka Uber) is encouraged, but parking is available in the Grand Margherita Hotel, Riverside Majestic Hotel, or at Bukit Permata, also known as TopSpot. Click here for a guide to the festival and here for tickets, which are priced at RM80 for an adult one-day pass and RM120 for two. There are great hotel + ticket deals too so be sure to check them out.

But why stop at just a single jazz concert? Take the time to explore Sarawak - and Sabah, too! - in full with our article as a guide.
