One of the biggest arts festivals in the region, the George Town Festival returns for the eighth year to Penang’s capital city. Every year, over one hundred unique events are held for the festival, including performances, installations, workshops, markets and more – and 2017 is no exception.
Every week has some feature events, and there are also ongoing events and exhibitions through the festival. Events include the Konsert Kopi-Tiam (mini concerts in iconic coffee shops), film screenings of ASEAN classics, a screening of the Born Into Brothels documentary (31 Aug), theatre performances in New World Park and traditional Malay music performances in Armenian Park.
Meanwhile, exhibitions to note are the George Town Toys & Comic Con 2017 (18-20 Aug); the OBSCURA Festival of Photography (18-31 Aug), which is Malaysia’s largest photography festival; Secret Gardens Revisited, a booklet that you take to discover five secret gardens in the city; and so much more.
