Anyone remember Jazz from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? In real life, he’s DJ Jazzy Jeff, a Grammy Award-winning hip hop icon who’s recorded with Will Smith, Kenny Lattimore and Jill Scott – and he’s going to be live on the turntables at Prime Touch Luxury this 12 November, courtesy of Red Bull Music Academy.
DJ Jazzy Jeff, real name Jeffrey Allen Townes, is well known for being one half of the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (who was Will Smith). Together, they received Grammy Awards for ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ – the first rap Grammy Award ever – and for ‘Summertime’.
On The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, DJ Jazzy Jeff played Jazz, Will Smith’s character’s best friend who was often chased out of the house by Uncle Phil. But it was in music that he truly shone: to date, he has a plethora of music awards under his belt and is even credited alongside DJ Cash Money for making the ‘transformer scratch’ famous.
DJ Jazzy Jeff also founded the A Touch of Jazz production company, which worked on various musical projects including the theme of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, a song on The Simpsons compilation album and the theme to UPN Network’s Between Brothers.
Catch DJ Jazzy Jeff for one night only when he takes to the turntables on 12 November at Prime Touch Luxury. Supporting acts include DJ Aku Ash, DJ Musher and MC Ash.
