As with many heritage hotels in Penang, the buildings that The Edison George Town is housed in boasts of a fascinating past. This Anglo-Colonial mansion is located on Lebuh Leith within the boundary of the UNESCO World Heritage precinct, and was designed according to the style of a time when tycoons made the area their home. Built in 1906 for a tycoon named Yeo Wee Gark, it comprised a main residence and an annex for servants’ quarters.
Today, after going through world wars, renovations and the passage of time, it’s one of the most well-known boutique hotels in George Town. By creatively melding the original architecture and design details with contemporary elements and comfort, The Edison George Town opened in 2016 and quickly became a traveller favourite. What to expect
The current owners astutely retained the building’s rich heritage and added amenities like a salt chlorinated swimming pool, The Lounge (breakfast venue and lounge) and The Courtyard (a central courtyard featuring original cast-iron columns and frescos).
