Remember when AirAsia X first announced the launch of their KL-Honolulu flights back in February? Well, the maiden flight has finally taken off and landed safely, marking the start of travellers being able to experience the Aloha Spirit at very reasonable prices.
There are four weekly flights taking off from Kuala Lumpur on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday with a two-hour transit in Osaka. The flight departs from Kuala Lumpur at 2pm and arrives in Honolulu 16-and-a-half hours later.
Passengers transiting in Osaka do not need to obtain a Japanese visa and will return to the plane upon clearing security. Passengers using the AirAsia Fly-Thru service from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) or Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok will be able to connect from one flight to another without collecting their bags at the transit hub.
While Honolulu is AirAsia X's first US destination, it seems plans to expand AirAsia X's services to other parts of the US are in the works, with AirAsia X Group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun quoted as saying, "This is just the beginning, and soon our guests will be able to enjoy flights to even more destinations in the US as we continue to grow our international footprint."
Exciting news for the future! For now, however, let's have a look at current price comparisons for flights from KL to Honolulu (as of 4 July 2017):
