EL Tries: Grand Lexis Port Dickson
THE HOTEL
Pack your bags. Just an hour and a half away from KL is Grand Lexis Port Dickson, which has all the ingredients for a relaxing weekend getaway: good service, clean villas, private pools, decent dining options and a pleasant spa.

The spacious villas come in options of one or two bedrooms: Deluxe Pool Villa offers one king-sized bed and Sky Pool Grand Villa offers three king sized beds, all other villas are equipped with two king-sized beds; each villa has a kitchenette and a private pool in an open air patio. There are also DVDs that can be loaned from the reception area, so guests could make themselves at home and just stay in all day.

If you have children in tow, the hotel also provides activities to keep them busy: there’s an archery range, children’s playroom, a games room, Segway obstacle course and boards games to choose from. Buggy rides are available from the hotel lobby to take you to your room, but the number of buggies are limited so expect to wait in line if it’s a busy day.

The Spa
Pamper yourself and make this a spa retreat—book an appointment with Lex Spa. The spa caters to both genders and offers massages (Lex Spa Signature Massage, Aromatherapy Massage, Malaysian Traditional Urut, Balinese Massage or Back and Shoulder Massage), scrubs (Detoxifying Body Scrub, Himalayan Body Scrub, Sumatran Coffee Scrub and more), wraps (Green Tea Body Polish, Milk and Yogurt Body Wrap or Balinese Boreh Spice Wrap), facial and hand and feet care, as well as a combination of packages.

We gave the Lex Spa Healing Program a try: the 90-minute program includes a flower foot bath, Himalayan Body Scrub and Lex Signature Massage. Our foot bath did not have flowers or salt scrubs, just plain hot water to wash the feet before lying on the massage bed.

The massage was a real highlight as my therapist Nurul, despite her small size, had the strength of a tough bodybuilder. Her pressure was strong and firm, working on every stress knot persistently and alternating with gentler strokes; I could feel my body relaxing with each stroke.

The Himalayan Salt scrub was next: a coarse, full body scrub. Nurul did not miss a spot as her hands worked thoroughly to remove every inch of dirt and dead skin but the scrub, which was pre-heated, quickly turned cold in the room and every application came with a shock of iciness.

I’d advise you to request for the scrub to be done first as the vigorous scouring wakes up the senses and takes away the relaxing vibes from the massage.

THE FOOD
There really is not much in terms of food in Port Dickson, and if you don’t feel like driving out for meals, there are four restaurants in Grand Lexis that will serve you well for the day. Duyung Restaurant is an all-day dining restaurant that serves a wide range of local and international cuisines, after which you can stop by the pirate-themed Lanun Bar for some drinks and live band performances.

We paid Genn Japanese Restaurant a visit, and while it may not be the best Japanese fare you will ever encounter, I’m taking a bet that it is the best you will find in Port Dickson. Compared to the pizza and pasta that we tried from Duyung Restaurant, Genn is definitely the better option. It’s quiet and comfortable, the sashimi was fresh and the food was delicious.

THE VERDICT
If you’re looking for some exciting outdoor adventure, this isn’t it—but make the trip if what you’re looking for is a quick holiday fix just to rejuvenate and forget about work stress for the weekend.
