Mr. Thorne’s Addition SpaceStation
The Mr. Thorne series of educational apps is very popular with parents and kids. This particular app deals with addition and is themed around space and planets. There are over 40 mental maths tests where the player must add numbers, fractions and decimals. Players have three levels to get through – Beginner, First Class and World Class – and it has been said that the highest level has managed to even stump some parents! If your kids enjoy this, be sure to get the other apps in the series which cover division (Mr. Thorne’s Divide + Conquer) and multiplication (Mr. Thorne’s Times Table).

Math Bingo
Math Bingo has been around for years and was considered one of best education apps when it came out. It’s still very popular considering there are so many more modern games out there. Add, subtract, multiply and divide based on the player’s maths level; and if you get all the numbers correct, you’re rewarded with a Bingo Bug. Based on the grid formation of a bingo card, kids can get quite competitive while filling up their slots with the right numbers. Once a card has been completed, two other games become available, Math Fling and Math Stack, which will keep the kids calculating for at least an hour!

Sushi Monster
Sushi Monster is a simple game to practise addition and multiplication, and the aim is to choose the correct combination that adds up to the number shown. A chef puts plates of sushi on a conveyor belt while the sushi monster sits in the middle with a number around its neck. The player adds or multiplies the values and if the answer is right, the monster gobbles up the sushi; if they get it wrong, the monster has a tantrum. Players earn points, stars and trophies, and the numbers get higher and more difficult to figure out as each level is passed – it does get challenging. Sushi Monster is part of the maths programme from Scholastic, which is one of the biggest educational publishing and media companies providing schools with teaching materials.
