The Great UK Food Journey – happening in all Mercato, Cold Storage and Jason’s Food Hall outlets – sees British food and drinks under the supermarket shopping spotlight for the month of April. Each week will have a different theme and over 100 new items have beem specially brought in during this period. The idea is to introduce shoppers to British brands – some already familiar, others less well known, but all well worth trying.
Week 1 begins now with sauces, spreads and canned food (think different versions of that all-time favourite – baked beans!) from renowned brands like Heinz and Colman’s. There’s also something interesting for the health-conscious with Whole Earth wholesome organic spreads including peanut and almond butter. Week 2 of the journey will be a fun one with the focus on snacks – something the British do well! The kids will be well catered for with the wide selection of biscuits, sweets and chips from Fox’s, McVitie’s, Haribo and Quality Street. The adorable Mr. Men and Little Miss lunch boxes with cookies will go down a treat too.
Afternoon tea is the theme of Week 3 with the Best of UK Tea, so be sure to get your favourite flavours from Twinings, Ahmad Tea and Harry Brompton’s. And last but not least, the journey ends in Week 4 with the Best of UK Liquor with brands like Aberlour for single malt Scotch whisky and the quintessential British gin from Beefeater. There will also be liquor samplings available in Mercato, Cold Storage and Jason’s Food Hall. Good to know: These supermarkets also stock a good range of Waitrose products like fish fingers, frozen chips, coffee, chocolate and carbonated drinks.
