Neroteca is a bit of an institution in KL’s Italian dining scene. Having been around for over a decade, it’s safe to say that in a city where diners’ fickle tastes can cause restaurants to close, they must be doing something right! The answer is simple – tasty authentic Italian food, quality ingredients and making dishes from scratch.
The restaurant is now open for breakfast from 9am to 12midday on Saturday and Sunday. The menu isn’t huge but what’s available is all you need to start the day right. Most of the dishes are organic egg-based and accompanied by fresh produce like tomatoes, spinach and mushrooms. And the best part is the delicious ham and bacon!
The signature Gran Neroteca (pictured) certainly lives up to its name – it’s a plateful of roast tomato, potato croquette, sunny-side up egg, sausage (homemade), bacon, sautéed mushrooms, stewed beans and toast. There are less filling options like eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, spinach and Hollandaise; or the ever-popular avocado toast with bacon (doesn’t everything taste better with bacon?) and fried egg.
You can also have eggs on their own (poached, boiled, scrambled, fried) or an omelette with tomato, mushroom, capsicum and onion. Being an Italian restaurant, coffee is obviously top quality. Coffee beans are courtesy of Buscaglione, a company in Rome that’s been in the coffee business since 1899.
The best part of Neroteca’s breakfast is the price – nothing costs more than RM20 per dish! The most expensive menu item is the Gran Neroteca at RM20 while the avocado toasts comes in at RM16.
