If you are looking for comfort French food, head down immediately to 2OX. In the revamped vicinity of Heritage Row aka Jalan Doraisamy, this newly opened restaurant is offering a no-frills, down-to-earth typical French menu.
For appetisers, I had the Pate de Maman, while my partner-in-crime for the evening had the toasted goat cheese with tomatoes. The first dish was hearty and up to my expectations, while the second was an absolute killer! The orange dressing combined with the complexion of a strong goat cheese made it close to perfection!
We then carried on with the ‘les tripe with tomato and spicy herbs’ and a ‘7-hour low temperature cooked beef oyster blade’. I will be truly honest here. If you are not familiar with the second one, avoid it. It is a very particular cut of beef, and if you are expecting a juicy steak, turn your eyes to something else. However, I did find it pretty good, although my companion didn’t truly enjoy it. I had set my choice on the tripes aka innards. And it was awesome! Rich, flavoursome and robust. Just the perfect dish for a cold winter night! (Erm...)
We ended our meal with a classic dark chocolate mousse and a ‘bourguignon pear and vanilla ice cream’. Do not hesitate in ordering the latter. It is just pure bliss.
All in all, a visit to 2OX will leave you satisfied and willing to come back. I would just make the décor a bit warmer. The use of Metro Tiles all over the walls makes it slightly impersonal and too neat. The spirit of the Brasserie Parisienne might have been slightly lost along the way, but the food is awesome!
