Drinking lemon water in the morning is thought to speed up the weight losing process, but nutritionists have proven that it doesn’t have an obvious effect on weight management. However, it is beneficial for overall health by clearing toxins, and water does accelerate the process of weight loss. Plus, with the addition of lemon and its high content of vitamin C, this is the ideal healthy drink; and so easy to make!
An entire lemon comes in at approximately 22 calories, and studies have shown that replacing one can of soda a day with lemon water can cut 180 calories from your intake. Avoid bottled and fizzy drinks (including boxed juices) as they really are full of sugar, and just drink lemon and water to begin losing weight.
Waste builds up in the colon, which contributes to weight gain and the risk of colon cancer. Drinking lemon and water daily can help detox the colon and bowels as well as ease the removal of waste. Lemon water also promotes fluid bowel functions by decreasing the risks of diarrhoea and constipation, which is beneficial for the digestive system.
Reduce hunger pangs
Lemon with water can reduce cravings for sweet drinks and junk food. Some of us find drinking plain water bland, so having the fresh tangy flavour of lemon encourages us to drink more. Water is an appetite suppressant, particularly if drank before a meal. The pectin (dietary) fibre found in lemon also helps with reducing hunger, so this what you should be reaching for if you feel like having a fizzy drink or crisps.
Instead of having tea or coffee first thing in the morning, have a lemon with water instead. Energy and hydration levels will be better, and you won’t suffer the caffeine crash in the middle of the day. Have a hot water with lemon to start your day and the cold version as the day goes along. Add cucumber, honey, ginger, mint or cayenne pepper for more health benefits and tasty flavours that will make you want to drink more.
