Garden International School (GIS) has been shortlisted for the British International School Awards 2018 in the Outstanding Strategic Initiative category. This prestigious award nomination is in recognition of the success of the GIS Professional Learning Culture, which fosters an environment of reflective and collaborative learning across the school community.
The primary aim is for GIS to become a key hub for continuing professional learning in Southeast Asia, and great efforts have been made to enhance professional learning provision across the school. This has led to a focused differentiated programme with termly Professional Learning Courses complementing individual training needs.
The integration of technology into lessons has become more effective and is supported by the sharing of good practice and the up-skilling of teachers in the use of iPads and Google apps. Over the years, Professional Development at GIS has vastly improved with Professional Learning Afternoons, which double the time dedicated to internal professional development.
This has placed GIS in a very promising position with the ‘best performing schools’ globally. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), these schools must have at least 100 hours of directed professional time annually.
The foremost goal of these Professional Learning Afternoons is to provide a detailed programme of collaborative and independent professional development opportunities and improve the students’ outcome.
