A Symphony of Voices
One Night Only - New York Harlem Singers
24th December 2008
Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands
‘HOPE worldwide’ is and international charity that harnesses the compassion and commitment of dedicated staff and volunteers to deliver sustainable, high impact community-based services to the poor and needy.
In line with their vision, “Bringing Hope and Changing Lives”, ‘HOPE worldwide’ will be hosting a charity concert with the noble cause of helping the poor this Christmas. The objective of the concert is to raise RM 1 million to sustain various ongoing programmes; to support continuous operation of free clinics in Kuala Lumpur / Penang and to set up a building fund for Centre of Hope that houses all activities and also acts as a community centre. Bear in mind, all proceeds are to help the needy and the less fortunate of our society.
Christmas Eve is going to be a special one to remember this year as Malaysian residents will be given the opportunity to savour another emerging icon, the New York Harlem Singers, a superb soul group comprising of eight members with power-packed vocals.
The New York Harlem singers were established in 1996 by Broadway music director Linda Twine in association with David K. Lee, Executive Producer of Arcadia Records and Music Management, Inc. Having held successful tours in US, Mexico, Japan, Korea and Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur will be the only stop for Malaysia before heading off to China and Europe.
Aseana Percussion Unit, The KL Children’s Choir, tenor Tan Wei Han and soprano Irma Lailatul will also be present to perform at the concert that will add to the festive air. These are world-renowned performers; all homegrown and ready to entice audiences from all over during the concert. Celebrity show host for the evening’s concert will be Terrence Dass and Angelene Chong (household faces on RTM2’s morning talk show “Hello on 2”).
Experience the spirit of the festive season which appeals to both grown ups and children. This is the perfect holiday treat for families staying in Malaysia this yuletide.
The Christmas Eve Charity Concert 2008 will take place at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands on December 24th. Showtime starts at 8.30pm. Tickets are priced at RM88, RM138, RM168 and RM388 (VIP seats by donation only). Tickets are available through Axcess Hotline: 03-7711 5000 / Online at www.axcess.com.my

Masters Football Malaysia Cup
December 7th,
Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam
Blue carpet lining Shah Alam’s Malawati stadium can mean only one thing – Masters football has at last made its way to Malaysia, big names and all. Promising to be entertaining, close fought and one of KL’s biggest sporting events this year, families and football fans should take note. With stars Ian Rush, Lee Sharpe, Stan Collymore, Gary Pallister and a host more all making appearances, the Masters Football Malaysia Cup is set to prove that these ex-professionals still possess that touch of quality.
It should be an impressive showcase and one that’s rarely witnessed first hand by audiences outside of the UK. In fact, this tour will be the first trip for many of the players to the region and will certainly be new territory for the Masters game. So much so that Sky Sports – the UK-based satellite television corporation and official broadcaster for Masters football – will be beaming the matches back live to the UK where the format’s enthusiasts exist in great numbers.
It’ll be no simple jolly for the players then, to whom competition is as important as ever. Pride for these players’ professional teams seldom fades and the legends will represent Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and EPL All Stars sides in Malaysia. Predicted TV audiences for the events in the UK reach upwards of seven million and that coverage, combined with the drive and class these 35-and-older legends still display should be incentive enough for the country’s football enthusiasts. But boosting the event, organisers Football Focus Sdn Bhd have a complete tournament carnival planned to precede the kick off. So further than the indoor football, families can enjoy music, stalls, food and inflatables outside the stadium from 2–10pm.
While carnival appropriately describes the external ambience, inside the stadium will undoubtedly see quality football played to characteristically enthusiastic fans. That’s what the 36 legends coming to KL relish the most; “I honestly can’t wait to play in December. I know how passionate the fans are over here and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of them,” explained Lee Sharpe in the country earlier this year. But Masters tournaments are not reserved purely for the typical football audience. Instead, they showcase a fast-paced, exciting, small-sided game that can be enjoyed by all.
Whether it’s the Gunners of yesteryear that you’re hoping to see, Liverpool legends, Manchester United greats or a selection of the Premier League’s finest ever talent, the Malaysia Cup will have spectators up close and personal with the stars they once cheered on week in, week out.
The Masters Football Malaysia Cup 2008 will take place at the Malawati stadium, Shah Alam on December 7th. Festivities start at 2pm and the football will kick off at 5pm. For more information and tickets, visit www.mastersfootballasia.com or www.axcess.com.my
