Malaysia Open Kuala Lumpur 2010

Sept 25–Oct 3
Malaysia Open Kuala Lumpur 2010
Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil
Kuala Lumpur
Tel: 03–2693 7111

www.MalaysianOpenTennis.com

We've been pretty over-golfed this year, so for a change we thought some tennis might be the best interim sporting event ... until the next golf tournament, of course. And how better to feel the adrenalin rush than the ATP World Tour? Not to mention the cardio (heart-racing) with poster-boys Robin Soderling (World No.5) and Lleyton Hewitt (former World No.1 and Wimbledon champion) gracing the courts at Bukit Jalil for the Malaysian Open.

Back for the second time and with a bigger budget, the Open Tournament Director Nick Freyer expressed his pleasure with the support from all quarters. "To have so many players wanting to return to KL makes the tournament team (and sponsors) even determined to set high standards and to think of new and interesting enhancements which will continue to make KL a favoured stop." The event will be one of the most heavily marketed and televised ATP 250 tournaments this year.

This year's line up not only sees the return of defending champ Nikolay Davydenko (World No.6) but the organisers have also so far confirmed Tomas Berdych (No.8), David Ferrer (No.12), Mikhail Youzhny (No.14), Nicolas Almagro (No.18), Marcos Baghdatis (No.25) and Asia No.1 Lu Yen-Hsun. If that isn't enough, rumour has it that there are other World Top 10 players requesting to participate. With prize money of USD947,750, being hosted at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, and a host of entertainment facilities close by, it's not surprising the players love to play here.

As for tennis fans, you're in for a treat too. The organisers have pulled out all the stops in ensuring a successful event. There are opportunities to meet many of the players at autograph sessions held twice a day, plus the highly popular "Catch the signed ball" promotion, star player clinics and a coin-toss that may win you dinner at the Players' Lounge. And if nothing else, at least you're assured of a work-out just watching.
