Introducing the Volkswagen Tiguan
9 Jul 2012
Volkswagen, with its first compact SUV has set a massive competition to the RAV4 and the Nissan X Trail. Doted of clean fine and sporty lines, the Tiguan is the perfect car for urban usage, and is very agile on the highway. Although presented as a 4x4, off the road practice might not be its forte.
Equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine, coupled to a 7 speed direct shift gearbox, the Tiguan is a nice little toy that will take miles and miles away.
The comfortable interior carries on the German company tradition. Clean and luxurious design makes the Tiguan a perfect example of what a family handy SUV should be.
The overall design is inspired by the Golf Plus. The lights, trunk, and doors are very similar to its little sister. However, what differentiates the Tiguan from the rest of the range is its “face”. Aggressive, yet elegant, it can carry a bit of shines, with added chromes and features from the Comfortline.
Thanks to its medium size frame, 4.43x1.80m, the Tiguan can be compared to the Peugeot 307SW. It translates to a very decent agility when used in the city. The Park Assist System will even make your experience easier when it comes to sliding in that little parking spot.
The real plus of the Tiguan is its cockpit. We could however regret the lack of originality, as it is entirely inspired by the Golf, but conviviality is what comes to mind when you first sit in it.
Sleek, the console only features the basic control commands, such as the sound system and the air cond. Another major asset is the Tiguan’s habitability. There is a feel of being in a Monospace, which clearly differentiates the Tiguan from the RAV4.
Much more compact than its bigger brother the Touareg, the Tiguan trunk is only 50 L smaller. With 505 litres available, travelling with the family will never be an issue, even if the Nissan X-Trail with 603 litres is the leader in that category.
With high performances, a fantastic behavior on the road, and a high end user friendly environment, The Volkswagen Tiguan is in the midst of redefining what a compact 4x4 SUV should be!
