April is a big month for Malaysia’s events calendar! On the music front, we have pop princesses Fifth Harmony coming to wow Surf Beach, Sunway Lagoon as part of their 7/27 Live Tour on 7 April, while American R&B crooner Brian McKnight brings his soulful hits to Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur on 9 April. On 14 April, Salman Khan, Prabhu Deva, Tamannah and others will descend on Mines Convention Centre for Da-Bang The Tour, touted as one of the biggest Bollywood concerts in Malaysian history.
It’s an exciting time for foreign film with the launch of the inaugural Mexican Film Festival in Penang. Held from 11-14 April, visitors to the Performing Arts Centre of Penang will be able to watch four acclaimed Mexican films for free! Later on, catch free screenings of all three The Godfather movies and V For Vendetta at the KL Performing Arts Centre’s ‘World’s Best Movies’ event from 17-25 April. Finally, the Thai Film Festival runs from 20-26 April with five Thai movies screened at Golden Screen Cinema outlets in the Klang Valley – also for free!
A range of sports activities also liven up the month with the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour arriving in Langkawi from 14-16 April. Two-wheelers will love the Ipoh Cycle Fest, where cycling challenges and fun activities will be held over the week of 23-30 April. Rounding off the list is two days of solid rugby with the KL Tigers International 10s 2017, held in Negeri Sembilan’s Epsom College from 29-30 April, and the obstacle-laden Viper Challenge at Medini, Johor on 30 April.
Foodies, you’ll want to head to Penang from 15-30 April to enjoy 16 days of food-centric activities in the Penang International Food Festival. Farm and wet market tours, cooking classes, street and fringe food festivals – what’s not to like? Meanwhile in KL, Hallyu fans will be delighted by the Korean Lifestyle Roadshow in Berjaya Times Square from 22-23 April, where you’ll be able to try Korean beauty and snack samples, watch a K-pop cover dance and try on a Korean hanbok (traditional costume).
