Marking its success, the TNT Charity Hunt 2011 which rolled out on 18 December saw 58 teams come on board in support of the community-driven initiative to raise funds totaling RM 20,000; for which the recipients were two carefully selected local orphanages namely Shelter Home Malaysia and Precious Children’s Home.

The participating teams were flagged off at the TNT KL West Operation Centre, a 40,000 sq. foot warehouse facility. The 55-km route had the contestants spread out throughout the Klang Valley and involved in an exciting hunt for clues in search of hidden treasures and a visit to several MBE outlets among other things.

The hunt ended at Bukit Jelutong, whereupon all teams were treated to a sumptuous lunch while awaiting the results. Winning teams 2 Sneakies + 2 Innocents and Tan Lim Teh Leow both claimed top spot in the ‘Regular’ and ‘Novice’ categories respectively, walking away a cash prize of RM 2,000 each.

The proceeds generated will be used for the rehabilitation and education of children-at-risk in an effort to empower them to get ahead in life. Besides cash, the one-day exercise garnered donations in kind, which welcomed contributions in the form of presents for the children and daily-to-day provisions for each of the homes.

An inaugural project, the event was proudly organized by TNT Express Malaysia in collaboration with Mail Boxes Etc and Mongoose Publishing.

The Precious Children’s Home is made up of two separate units; both of which house 32 children between the ages four and 18 who come from various races and backgrounds. The kids here attend school from pre-school to secondary level.

Meanwhile, Shelter Home Malaysia is a registered voluntary welfare organisation for abandoned, neglected, orphaned or abused children and teenagers. The establishment is guided by the vision to provide each resident the best possible childhood and future by way of protection, guidance, healing and a strong sense of family and community.

Empowered by the success of the programme, S. C. Chong, Managing Director of TNT Malaysia and Brunei, is looking forward to a second TNT Charity Hunt.
