BMCC Smashes RM1 Million Mark

Organised by the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (BMCC) in June 2012, the 8th KL Charity Rugby Dinner, raised RM80,000 for local charities, smashing the RM1 million mark.

Over the last seven years, the highly anticipated event has attracted more than 4,000 people with 24 top-flight international rugby personalities. The effort has also offered more than 500 local rugby juniors a chance to train with the legends while supporting more than two dozen Malaysian charities.

Since the inception of the event in 2005, the charity dinner has raised more than RM1 million. The funds raised this year will see RM40,000 donated to the Dyslexia Association of Malaysia, RM20,000 to the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia and RM10,000 to Ti-Ratana Welfare Society and Shelter Home For Children respectively.

Among the organisations which have benefited from this initiative are Agathians Shelter, Women's Aid Organisation, National Stroke Association of Malaysia, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and Breast Cancer Programme. The funds were generated via ticket sales, a prize raffle and charity auction of rare sporting memorabilia.

Time time, the auction included a prized RBS Six Nations jersey autographed by 2012 Grand Slam winner, Wales, a unique Ireland jersey signed by the 2012 squad and a Wallabies and Wallabies jersey inked by legends Tim Horan, David Campese, Jason Little, Matt Burke and Mark Ella. The British & Irish Lions jersey signed by the Wallace brothers Richard, David, and Paul received the highest bid of nearly RM8,000.
