Tanzini

Tanzini

As exciting a restaurant launch as Malaysia has experienced for some time, Tanzini is bold, innovative, accomplished and straightforward. There is nothing not to like.

The pledge is one of fresh food, with a clear, evident pathway from raw ingredient to finished dish. This is evident in every mouthful with powerful and authentic flavours that show that no shortcuts have been taken, because no shortcuts are needed with such ‘proper’ food. At Tanzini there seem to be no additives, no false moves, no complications, only genuine food of exceptional class.

The menu is largely Italian in nature. The pasta is a delight, fresh and positively bouncing with verve. Going from the reassuring murmurs and praise to the heavens from my partner, a good place to start is the venison carpaccio and beef pastrami with avocado and scallop in a blanket. Immediately you can see that this is a restaurant that is not afraid to be different but is all about making the ingredients king.

For main course, the waiter recommended the Wellington of Wagyu, a popular and magnificent choice. The meat was tender beyond belief and held its moist flavours perfectly. Not spoiled by too much sauce, marinade or other distractions, the chefs at Tanzini again present this dish on its own merits, just the way a good piece of beef should.

However, don’t feel that foodies are denied anything in the creativity stakes (or indeed steaks). Tanzini’s menu is brimming with innovation and placing their well-sourced and well-cooked items with a contemporary twist. They are also presented with almost theatrical elegance, complementing the sense of occasion provided by the inspiring setting.

Another attraction to Tanzini is the excellent cocktail menu. My advice is to tackle those after your meal rather than spoil the effect of the food on your tastebuds. Not to mention your ability to remember what you ate.

Tanzini is open for lunch and dinner and for the former there are very good value lunch offers for workers in the city centre. However, given the spectacular views from the 28th floor of GTower, an evening reservation is unquestionably more eye-catching. When you reserve a table, ask for the best possible view, although every seat has something intriguing to see and besides, when you move on to the cocktails, there is a chic balcony area, which may well be the most desirable new nightspot in KL.
