Familiar though I am with Nerovivo and Neroteca – over-familiar, if I’m honest – it was only a couple of months ago that I visited Nerofico, their sister restaurant in Damansara Heights, for the first time.
If, like me until recently, you haven’t had the pleasure, the first thing to say in describing Nerofico is that it is unmistakably Nero. It’s stylish, modern, the service is good, the dark wood tables and trimmings, the enticing menu, all of which are unique to this award-winning group. Suffice to say, you’re in safe hands.
Not that the offerings are identical to the other outlets in the chain. One of the charms of Nerofico is that the menu holds the same appeal and ticks the right boxes as you would find at Nerovivo, however, the selection is quite different and there is a whole new list of favourites to discover.
Take the light Nerofico Caprese salad, the buffalo mozzarella and bouncingly juicy tomatoes smeared with extra virgin and basil for one of the best Caprese’s around. Another great choice is the fresh tortelli, from which rich mushrooms expel their flavours having been cooked in a butter sauce and topped with foie gras.
And each day there is a daily special risotto dish, which should be investigated before committing to any alternative.
The subtlety of the creations at Nerofico result in powerful flavours. The seared tuna steak is one such straightforward dish, but one that is presented beautifully with pak choy and lemon sauce to make the fish the king. Genuinely inspirational.
As you would imagine, the pizzas are also first rate and are a perfect accompaniment for a meal on one of the Jazz or Comedy Nights that have launched Nerofico into a whole new stratosphere as far as restaurants in KL go.
Nowhere else offers this kind of high quality entertainment, that makes for a brilliant date night (or any night) of fine food and enjoyable atmosphere. Both for Jazz and Comedy the artists rotate, and the nature of the two artforms is that no two nights are ever the same.
No wonder there is a steady following growing. Now is a very good time to see what all the fuss is about.
