St Patrick’s Day Celebration14 Mar 2017
Originally a Christian feast day to commemorate Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, St Patrick’s Day has evolved over the years to become a celebration of Irish heritage and culture. It’s now one of the most celebrated national festivals internationally, and Malaysia is no exception. With St Patrick’s Day falling on a Friday this year (17 March), the celebrations are bound to last through the weekend. Here are some of the hottest parties happening around town!
The black brew of choice this festival, Guinness is throwing a bash to end all bashes for the weekend of 17-19 March in honour of the celebration. The main event will take place at Publika with live band performances – some will even cover Irish songs! – along with an oyster shucking competition and tasting, Irish games like the ring toss, prize giveaways and plenty of Irish stew and other delicacies to try.
Be there from 6pm onwards at the centre square in Publika on Friday 17 March for the kick-off, then come back after 1pm on Saturday and Sunday to continue the festivities. Admission is free but do take note that this is an 18+ event with alcohol.
Satellite events will also take place on 17 March in Penang, Ipoh, Johor and Kota Kinabalu to spread the revelry nationwide. Check www.facebook.com/guinnessmalaysia for updates!
If you’re familiar with the city’s prime entertainment hub, then you know that the place to be for all things Irish is the Donkey & Crow Irish Pub. It’s going to be lively on 17 March as the party kicks off with a live performance by Steve and the Irish Trad at 6.30pm, followed by The Passengers at 9pm. Patrons can also to take wefies and selfies at the photo booth from 7-11pm, and there’ll be lots of fun events like the Irish Car Bomb Challenge, ring games and lucky draws.
While there isn’t a dress code, it’s in your interests to go as green as you can as the greenest of them all will win a special prize! And there’s more good news for Guinness lovers: you’ll enjoy a two + one (500ml) Guinness promotion at RM60 nett, while Tiger Beer will be sold for RM10 nett per 330ml from 12pm till closing.
Copious quantities of beer are downed for St Patrick’s Day; therefore, it makes perfect sense to hold a beer party this weekend! Taps Beer Bar will be hosting The Better Beer Party from 11am onwards at their Mont Kiara outlet, offering bottled beers from RM20nett and draught beers at happy hour prices all day. They’re also well-known for their selection of craft beers, so this is a great chance to try them out.
