A little bird told me that Sri Nyonya supplies curry powder to a major international hotel here in KL, and for good reason- the beef
rendang here is just as it should be, flavourful, fragrant and tender.
Also worthy of note is the kerabu lemak sayur paku, a cold salad
of blanched fern shoots (purportedly almost impossible to source, so this is the only place you can get them!) dressed in a light, spicy
sauce. The spring rolls are unusually large and piping hot out of the deep fryer, and along with the nasi ulam, a cold rice salad dressed
with finely shredded herbs and dried chilli, a great way to start a meal.
The curry kapitan is perfect for those not yet used to the
constant assault of chilli on their tastebuds—this piquant yellow curry has all the flavour and fragrance of chilli but none of its heat.
The stir-fried four-angled beans were an interesting addition to the table, perfectly cooked and not bogged down by an over-abundance of
sambal.
By the way, behind Sri Nyonya are the people who first brought renowned coffee brand Lavazza into Malaysia. So naturally, their
cappuccinos are superb. Look no further for great nyonya favourites (and excellent coffee.)
