After an indulgent dinner, nothing beats a decadent dessert to round off the meal. I café hop any given lazy Sunday, so discovering that this hidden gem in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) had somehow escaped my notice until now came as a surprise. The café has ample amounts of space and greenery, which makes for a really pleasant ambience.
The menu presents delicate and intricate desserts with intriguing combinations. Spoilt for choice, I had to ask the staff to recommend their signature items. They suggested I take a chance on experimental ingredients. Balsamic Vinegar Ice Cream and Black Pepper Mango Ice Cream, anyone?
We started with Foo Foo’s Baked Cheesecake with Macadamias & Citrus Salad. Creamy with zesty undertones, the classic Graham cracker base and sugar-coated macadamia nuts gave the right balance of flavours.
Next came the Tahini Chocolate Mousse with Honeycomb & Peanut Tuiles, which was deliciously rich and beautifully balanced. The peanut tuiles balanced out the sweetness of the chocolate and the honeycomb, and the mousse was light enough to make you forget how sinfully rich this dessert actually was!
Next on the list was the Crispy Profiteroles with Salted Caramel Coffee Ice Cream & Glazed Orange. This is a signature creation and even the way it was assembled was impressive. Perfect puff pastry provided the base for the salted caramel coffee ice cream, while the caramelised orange added an extra dimension.
We then tried the Apple Strudel with Black Pepper Mango Ice Cream, which may sound like an odd combination, but actually worked wonderfully. Black pepper and mango as an ice cream flavour was a winner.
All the desserts including the ice cream are made on site here and are a testament to the culinary boldness of the chef. Come here with friends so you can order a few desserts to share and fully experience everything Foo Foo has to offer. We’re pretty sure you’ll be back for more.
