Starting Out

I started teaching in Hong Kong over 20 years ago. After staying there for just under two years, I returned to the UK, where I worked in a variety of schools and settings. I have been a Head Teacher of four different schools, and my last role, prior to joining the Alice Smith School, was as an Executive Head Teacher over three schools. At each school, I was very proud to be part of a team that improved the learning and teaching for the children.

Each school improved to Good and Outstanding judgements at their next Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) inspection. Three years ago, I became a National Leader of Education and enjoyed collaborating with other Head Teachers to further develop and improve their schools.

My first job in Hong Kong made me realise that this was the only job I wanted to do: children are fascinating; they are so eager and full of ideas, they make you think and no day is the same when you are with them. Also, the opportunity to work with some amazing teachers and to see the impact that they have on children’s lives is another great aspect of the job.

Paving The Way

Our aim is to provide an outstanding education for every child at the primary and secondary campuses; this means an enriched curriculum and diverse opportunities with the aim of making each child happy and healthy. Already, I can see how committed our teachers are and how they inspire an excitement and passion for learning, which challenges and engages each individual. My personal aim is to continue to learn and develop from the best international school in Malaysia.

Ethics And Principles

Fundamentally, raising children’s self-esteem, recognising each individual’s strengths and supporting their areas for development underpins each child’s personal success and it is our goal to enable them to be the best that they can be. I strongly believe that every child matters. By working closely with children, parents and teachers and ensuring that we communicate well and give every individual the time that they deserve, we can meet the needs of all the children in our care.

Living in Malaysia

I have travelled in Asia prior to taking up this amazing role. I visited Penang three years ago and was so impressed with the people and their friendliness, the diversity of cultures and architecture and the amazing food! I am looking forward to snorkelling and scuba diving in what are some of the best settings in the world. I’m also hoping to explore Malaysia further – its jungles and islands especially. Lastly and most importantly, I’m looking forward to being a part of the amazing community at The Alice Smith School in my new role.
