The School of Arts & Social Sciences, KDU College Penang, welcomed 41 students from SMJK Keat Hwa to a team-building session on 25 May.

The students were challenged to build towers from straws during the session. The Head of Centre of Design Excellence, Aaron Goh, briefed them on the conditions involved as soon as they were divided into groups. In the group, members selected a leader, a scriber and a specialist.

According to Aaron, “Through sharing of ideas during group discussion, this gives each member the opportunity to contribute. This team-building exercise reflects the real-world working environment whereby the team works together for projects like this”.

Each tower created was given the endurance test by placing a weight on the tower to see if it would withstand the pressure, failing which the group would be disqualified. A small token of appreciation was presented to the winners during the a prize presentation ceremony.

The team-building exercise was a hands-on exercise, allowing many to learn to communicate their ideas and put them into action as well as cultivate the essentials of working in a team.
