Sunway Medalists Honored with Scholarships

The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has honored three sportswomen from Sunway who won a combined nine medals for Malaysia in the recent 26th SEA Games in Palembang, Indonesia.

Katrina Ann Abdul Hadi won five gold medals in the synchronised swimming category, Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore gold in bowling and Sin Li Jane silver also in bowling; earning them each Sunway Talent Scholarship awards in the area of sport which offers these students a 100% tuition fee waiver.

For Jacqueline and Katrina, this means an upgrade to their existing Sunway Talent Scholarship – Sports, from a 50%waiver to 100%.

In addition, should Katrina (currently studying at Sunway College) decide to continue her studies at Sunway University, she will be offered a continuation of her scholarship into her university studies.

Two of the athletes, Katrina and Sin Li Jane met with Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah on Friday, 2 December to accept their scholarship certificates.

Jacqueline was unfortunately unable to receive the scholarship certificate personally as she was away in South Africa competing for Malaysia in the World Cup Bowling Championships.

Katrina is a Canadian International Matriculation (CIMP) student at Sunway University. She completed a clean sweep taking Gold in all the synchronised swimming events (technical routine duet, technical routine team event, free routine duet, free team combination, free routine team discipline).

Jacqueline is currently pursuing the American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) at Sunway University and is also a former CIMP student. Jacqueline took gold with partner Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi in the women’s doubles, adding to her successful year which has already seen her crowned World Champion at the Women’s World Bowling Cham-pionships 2011 in Hong Kong.

Sin Li Jane is also enrolled in the ADTP at Sunway University. She took silver in the women’s individual Bowling event on her SEA Games debut, narrowly missing out on the Gold medal by virtue of only two pins.

The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation owns and governs Sunway Education Group institutions.
