Great Minds Think
1 Jan 2012Penang Institute, formerly known as the Socio-Economic and Environmental Research Institute (SERI), was inaugurated on Dec 9.
It started off with a panel discussion on how to improve policymaking in Malaysia. The ceremony also coincided with ‘Penang in Asia’ Lecture Series delivered by Professor Sir James Mirrlees, the recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
Mirrlees spoke on Finance and the current recession. The Penang Institute aims to be one of the best policy research institutes in Southeast Asia, providing the State Government and the people with far-sighted, out-of-the-box options for Penang to lead again and to be a hub for Asian and global thinkers to exchange views.
