Fairview International School Celebrates Honours Day

On 5th July 2013, parents, teachers, students and special guests all took part in Fairview International School’s annual celebration of Honours Day. With the theme “Education for a Better World”, the celebration demonstrated unity in diversity at the Dewan Perdana Felda, Kuala Lumpur. This theme was represented through performances by students from the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), a diverse group of pupils portraying the infamous ten attributes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Profile.

The evening commenced with a graduation ceremony for the latest batch of Fairview’s teaching degree programme who received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the prestigious Roehampton University based in London. These students will henceforth become Fairview’s newly trained IB teachers, educating classes of their own from next August onwards.

Afterwards, the students of the PYP and MYP took to the stage to give outstanding performances related to the theme “Education for a Better World”. The stage dazzled with dances before the grand finale: a beautiful choir performance by all the students of “Greatest Love of All”, which echoed the Fairview philosophy of producing balanced, knowledgeable, risk taking, open-minded and caring individuals.

At the event, Fairview’s honoured VIP guests were also interviewed regarding a variety of educational topics. Gracing these interviews were The Director General of Education, Tan Sri Abd. Ghafar Mahmud, Chairman, Board of Directors Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Sham bin Mohd Sani, Member of Fairview Council of Governors Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Syed Jalaludin bin Syed Salim and Chairman, Council of Governors Mr Daniel Chian. In most parts of the world, education is focused on achieving results, resulting in pressure when it comes to homework assignments, memorizations and/ or being the first in line. Disagreeing with this style of teaching, Fairview International School is the only IB World School to offer the full spectrum of IB programmes, PYP, MYP and Diploma Programme (DP) which believes in student-centred active learning and nurturing the child to become a life-long learner.
