Diamond Jubilee1 Jul 2012
The Alice Smith School celebrated Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee on a grand scale. The day kicked-off with a school assembly at the Primary Campus, followed by a traditional ‘street party’ at lunchtime.
Flags, balloons and buntings added atmosphere and everyone came dressed in hues of red, white and blue for the occasion. The celebration was marked earlier with a series of events. Primary students launched a Jubilee Charity Challenge where all proceeds were channelled to CLAPAM Cleft Lip and Palette Association.
Throughout the week, they were involved in creating a large timeline of events that have taken place since the beginning of the Queen’s reign. Secondary students and their parents brought British and Commonwealth food to share in a picnic on the field.
It ended with the lighting of a Jubilee Beacon. In the lead up to the celebrations, Secondary students contributed to the Jubilee Time Capsule of the Royal Commonwealth Society, an online capture of events and stories from the last 60 years all over the Commonwealth.
