Alice Smith School Sports Awards 2015

The achievements of the sporting talent at Alice Smith School were recently celebrated at Prince Hotel & Residences, Kuala Lumpur, and Expatriate Lifestyle was honoured to be present.

The night was also attended by Head of School Roger Schultz, senior staff and over 100 students, with prizes given in numerous sports from football, netball, rugby and athletics to swimming, golf, badminton and water polo.

Half and Full Colours were awarded to students who have not only achieved competitive success but who have also been outstanding ambassadors for their school and community. Following these awards and those for MVPs in all disciplines, Stephen Weller and Niamh Quigley were awarded Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year for Under 15 age group respectively. Stephen produced an astonishing year in the pool, marking himself out as one of the school’s most exciting swimming talents in history, while Niamh’s all round sporting class was evident in various sports, none more so than touch rugby.

In the Under 19 age group, Emil Bernstein was selected as Sportsman of the Year having driven the school’s golf team to an unprecedented second place in their regional golf tournament. And Emily Brosnan took home Sportswoman of the Year thanks to her outstanding performance in Cross Country and her team success with the girl’s touch rugby team, who also won the Sekhar Award for Team of the Year.

The Annual Sports Awards Dinner was organised by Mr Potter, Head of PE Faculty and Head of Sport at Secondary Campus and his PE department. Special guest for the night was Paul Parker, the former Manchester United and England footballer, who spoke after the awards about his career, offering inspiration to the students before their summer break and their sporting careers ahead.
