Tiger Rock Pangkor Island

Best Boutique Stay: Winner
Best Eco-Resort: Winner
Best Romantic Stay: Excellence Award
Best Resort for Rest & Recreation: Excellence Award
Tiger Rock, a little jungle home on Malaysia's Pangkor Island, throws you right into the heart of nature. Made up of the Main House, the Studio and Pool House with their own living and dining rooms, the three houses share a library pavilion and fantastic pool. With views of the bamboo and jungle, the Pool House is marvellous for candlelit barbeques and seafood dinners.
The Hill House at Tiger Rock, fashioned after a colonial tea estate bungalow, is surrounded by mature trees and palms with a view of the sea. The Tiger Rock team is headed by Mohan, a wonderful host and his wife, Bavanni, a phenomenal cook, whose hospitality know no bounds.
With this being its first year in the Best of Malaysia Awards and with no KL based excellence award we can see Malaysia's islands growing in strength and reputation.
Tiger Rock also makes a debut appearance in the Best Eco-Resort category that recognises efforts to promote sustainable tourism in Malaysia. Set in 12 acres of tropical forest reserves, Tiger Rock was once home to the Wilkinson family who designed and built the houses based on the traditional kampung houses found on the island.
Most of the building materials were sourced from the island itself and much of the landscape has been kept intact; dipterocarp trees surround the entire property and boulders are kept intact in their original locations emphasising the natural beauty of the environment.
Eco-friendly practices are evident throughout, ensuring the safety and preservation of the existing eco-system in Tiger Rock. And the inclusion of the local island community in the management of the property strengthens mutual respect for the environment and culture.
